Obituary for Jean Irvin

Jean Irvin
Jean Irvin, 93, went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2018.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard Irvin; her parents, Harvey and Edna Myers; her stepmother, Ruth Myers; and her brother, Paul Myers (Dorothy).

She is survived by her adoring children, Christa Gates (Keith predeceased), Richard K. Irvin (Bonnie), Lauren Foster (Jerry), Scott Irvin, and Beth Moody (Rick); 16 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

Jean was born September 13, 1924 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Altoona High in 1942 and entered Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia the same year. She graduated on December 15, 1945. She went on to work at the Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia.

She met Richard Eugene Irvin during WWII while caring for his mother. They married on February 14, 1947. After moving to New York, she gave up her career to have 5 children. She began private nursing as her last child started school.

She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, as was her husband. They raised their children at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church and later became a Reformed Presbyterian. They spent their final years as members of Woodruff Road Presbyterian.

She remained absolutely adored by her husband until his death on April 2, 2017. They were married 70 wonderful years and will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank Interim Hospice, especially Amy, Heidi, Vicki, and Angela and Jen, Cheryl, Peggy, Kendall, and Danielle of Oakleaf Assisted Living.

A Memorial Service will be held at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church, 2519 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 6:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Piedmont Women's Center in Greenville, South Carolina or Calvary Home for Children in Anderson, South Carolina.
